One day, I came home from school and saw this sparrow sitting at the edge of the door mat forcing herself to do something. At first, I didn’t understand what she was up to, but soon realized that she was trying hard to lay an egg.
Half of the egg was visible and the rest was not completely out yet. For the first time in my life, I was witnessing a bird laying eggs. She was really trying hard and I could see that it was causing her difficulty, and she was out of breath with her beak open, panting heavily, walking around in desperation and stopping when exhausted.
I waited and watched for almost an hour, but to no avail, nothing was happening. As I was going up the stairs, she flew off with half of the to be discharged egg still not out of her. I thought of women screaming during child birth, and wondered what this poor little bird would go through.
She could neither scream nor find anybody to help her in her pain. It was very hard for her, very difficult!
